Global oil market disruptions, particularly in the Middle East, are exerting significant pressure on crude oil prices, and Spain is feeling the impact. As a nation heavily reliant on imported crude oil, Spain has seen petrol prices climb for the 11th consecutive week. This prolonged increase has pushed the cost at over 150 service stations in Aragón beyond the €2 per litre mark.
As of September 17, the national average for regular petrol reached €1.866 per litre, reflecting a 2.88% hike in just one week. Diesel prices have also risen to €1.834 per litre after a temporary drop. The combination of rising international oil prices and domestic economic pressures is creating a challenging landscape for Spanish motorists.
Compounding these challenges is the looming expiration of the Spanish government’s temporary fuel discount, set to end on September 30. This measure currently offers a relief of 5 cents per litre on petrol and 20 cents on diesel. Analysts warn that without this discount, diesel prices could surpass €2 per litre, with petrol prices not far behind.
